Nisha Johnson

Owner/clinician

After over 10 years of experience working with children and adults in the hospital setting, I am excited to work with clients in their homes in a more focused and personal way. Since earning my graduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, I have worked in pediatric settings including outpatient and NICU as well as served adults in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

Over the course of my career, I have enjoyed treating a diverse pediatric population, finding particular joy in helping them and their families navigate communication disorders and feeding disorders. I have a broad range of experience with speech and language disorders including articulation and phonological disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, and genetic syndromes, among others.

Over the years, feeding has taken a particular interest for me, and I have experience working with infants and children in feeding from the NICU environment through teenage years. I also hold certification in lactation counseling, as well as training in various approaches to feeding disorders including training in assessment of orofacial myology, and the use of myofunctional approaches to treatment.

My approach to therapy is centered on partnering with parents and families to help children to achieve their goals. With younger children, I work through play to achieve outcomes, and for older children, strive to bring them into the team, including them in goal-setting to provide motivation. All ages involve parent and family coaching, and I enjoy the freedom that private practice allows me to communicate more closely and more often with my clients.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, taking advantage of outdoor activities around the Bay Area, and indulging my hobbies of knitting, photography and baking.
